Pilates is for everyone! The current trend of women dominating the world of Pilates has led to a common misconception that Pilates is a female only activity. The fact is that Joseph Pilates, born in Germany in 1880 was a cigar smoking circus acrobat, gymnast and boxer who developed his system for men while in an internment camp during WWI on the Isle of Man using minimal equipment.

In 1925 Pilates moved to NYC and took over a boxing gym on 8th Ave alongside several dance studios where he befriended and trained many dancers and choreographers in his method.

The six principles that form the Pilates method are control, center, concentration, precision, flow and breath. Regular application of these principles throughout the Mat exercises will result in improved posture, coordination, confidence and physique.
