Our Gentle Yoga classes and Yoga Therapy sessions are especially well-suited for students experiencing a lack of mobility, strength, balance, or flexibility due to a wide variety of causes such as injuries, arthritis, stroke, illness, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, or simply the effects of aging.
In every Gentle Yoga class and Yoga Therapy session at Studio 221, students are encouraged to move at their own pace and adapt as needed to meet their individual needs. Specific modifications are shared throughout class so you don't have to worry if a particular exercise or yoga pose doesn't suit you. You'll have the support and knowledge needed to enjoy a well-rounded, safe yoga practice.
Gentle Yoga will not only refresh and strengthen your body, you'll also experience a much needed dose of stress relief, promoting a calm and steady mind. Our Gentle Yoga classes are rooted in a form of yoga known as Hatha Yoga. Hatha Yoga is the practice of combining breath with movement to achieve an enhanced state of well-being. A regular Hatha Yoga practice will help you cultivate a steady and relaxed mind, while building strength, flexibility, muscle tone, and healthy patterns of movement in your daily life.
GROUP CLASSES OR INDIVIDUAL YOGA THERAPY: WHICH IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
Group classes are accessible for most students, even if you've never practiced yoga. The pace of our Gentle Yoga classes allow for modifications to meet a variety of needs. Individual Yoga Therapy sessions are appropriate when specific conditions are present that need to be addressed. This may include recent injuries or stroke, inability to stand without assistance, trouble getting up and down from the floor, or perhaps a lack of confidence or not knowing your current level of ability. Yoga Therapy allows for one-on-one instruction and may be the first step toward working your way into either a group class or a home practice.
